Patio dei Giardini Restaurant
(Garden House)

Located within the historic gardens of the Reggia di Venaria Reale, near the Great Pond and the Fountain of Hercules, the Patio dei Giardini is conceived as a discreet pavilion integrated into the baroque geometry of the royal landscape.

Carefully positioned within the historic garden masterplan, the building aligns with the axial composition of the parterres and the pond while maintaining the proportional rhythm of the surrounding garden squares. Its cross-shaped layout frames views both toward the gardens and across the water, reinforcing the spatial logic of the site.

Constructed as a lightweight timber structure resting on a compacted gravel base, the pavilion employs recyclable materials, primarily wood and copper, avoiding permanent foundations in order to minimise its impact on the historic grounds.

The architecture is defined by a strongly horizontal roof that blends quietly into the garden. While appearing perfectly flat from the outside, the roof subtly bends inward toward the central courtyard, allowing water drainage while preserving the clarity of a continuous horizontal line within the landscape.
