Ristorante Origano Trevi

Located in the historic centre of Rome between Piazza di Spagna and the Fontana di Trevi, Origano Trevi emerged from the refurbishment of an existing Roman trattoria. Working within a limited budget and a very short construction timeline, the project focused on rediscovering the architectural soul of the space while introducing a contemporary sensibility.
Layers of plaster were removed to reveal the original brick arches and masonry, allowing the historic character of the building to re-emerge. Within this restored framework, a restrained set of bespoke elements in black iron, wood and marble introduces a subtle modern presence, while traditional marmette flooring anchors the space within Roman material culture.
A constellation of suspended incandescent bulbs defines the atmosphere of the interior, casting a warm light that guides movement through the vaulted rooms and transforms the narrow sequence of spaces into an intimate dining landscape.
The project was received with immediate success and led to the commission of two further Origano restaurants, extending the architectural language developed in this first intervention.
