Tangenziale Est Conversion
Tiburtina, Rome

Conceived as an alternative to the demolition of the elevated Tangenziale Est near Tiburtina Station, the project proposes the transformation of approximately 500 metres of existing infrastructure into a new elevated public landscape.
The intervention reinterprets the viaduct as a linear civic space connecting the railway station, metro lines and bus terminal, an urban node crossed by more than 50 million people each year. Above the structure, a continuous pedestrian park introduces greenery, public terraces and cultural spaces, while the ground level beneath the viaduct accommodates commercial functions designed to activate the surrounding district.
The economic value generated by the ground-level development was conceived as the financial mechanism supporting the construction and long-term maintenance of the elevated public space.
The proposal reframes obsolete infrastructure as an urban catalyst, transforming a barrier within the city into a new civic landscape linking mobility, public space and economic activity.
