La Curia Maxima
Civil Wedding Hall

Located within Palazzo Civico in Turin, the project transforms the historic Ex Curia Maxima courtyard into a civil wedding hall connected to the adjacent Sala Juvarra. The intervention establishes a ceremonial spatial sequence that restores the symbolic dignity traditionally associated with religious marriage rites within a civic setting.

The layout is organised to recreate the processional experience of entering a ceremonial space, allowing couples to cross the hall through a central axis before reaching the place of the ceremony. This spatial gesture establishes a dialogue with the scale and historic character of the adjacent baroque hall designed by Filippo Juvarra.

The restoration reinstates traditional materials and craftsmanship. Original floor patterns were reconstructed, while walls are finished in natural stucco. Custom-made furnishings, large mirrors, gilded curtains and leather seating were designed in proportion to the monumental volume of the hall. Complementary spaces, including a small auditorium and reception areas, adopt the same restrained palette of natural materials such as travertine, wood and leather.
